**Vanilla Nether Tunnel Design Competition**

Help!  We need new Vanilla Nether Tunnels!  We want YOU to design them.  The community will vote on which design they like the best.  The winning design will be reproduced in all 4 of our main tunnels.

What should I design you ask?  That’s up to you!  We want your best and most creative ideas.  Don’t worry too much about the expense of the materials.  We have a strong community and resources are essentially endless.  However, be realistic with your expectations.  As fun as it might be, we really can’t build tunnels out of diamond blocks. 😊  The winning tunnel will help inspire the design of the Nether Hub.

To get you started, here is the basic criteria:

-The templates are posted here; follow them for the foundation of your design

-The red sections are for personal tunnels

-The blue sections are your design; this can be up to 8 blocks tall, unless you want the bedrock ceiling as part of your design.  In the photo, the blue section is 4 blocks high, 5 with the gold block

-To ensure your tunnel design is spawn proof, the floor MUST contain glass, an ice path and slabs; you are free to design under the glass

-There MUST be trap doors set above the ice path at the top side of the second block (see pic for reference)

You MAY submit multiple designs if you feel inspired!  When you are ready to show off your work, please post a reply here with pictures showing multiple angles of your design.

All designs must be posted by 8pm EST February 12th.  The community will have from February 12th to February 19th to vote for their favorite design.

In addition to having their design implemented in all 4 tunnels, the winner will receive a Wild Card Collectible named for them!

May the odds be ever in your favor!

@tinnibell

The blue in the photos are 4 blocks high, not including the gold block.  The blue can go up to 8 blocks until the bedrock ceiling, unless you want the bedrock as part of the design.

The very top layer (honeycomb behind the quartz slabs in the ceiling) actually pokes into the first layer of bedrock, but I think it will be fine because there are so few blocks at that level in this design and so few bedrock that it won't really make a difference or show.

Thanks for taking a peek!

My attempt at a nether tunnel design. I call it "Balance"

This nether tunnel was designed to look appealing while also being comfortably functional to any player - late game or fresh spawn.

This design makes use of repeating patterns and easily craftable variations of a small selection of blocks - using expensive blocks or materials very sparingly - to make construction and expansion relatively convenient while also maintaining a pleasant aesthetic.

As for functionality, the multi-section repeating patterns allow a user on foot or in boat to more easily determine how far they travel even when moving at high speed by counting cycles either in the ice road supports or the wavy ceiling pattern.

For the more late game players, the lower level is designed to be very empty, allowing for easy elytra flight and two lines of slabs I lovingly call the "bumpers" that can be used to easily keep from straying too far left or right, even when flying through slow-loading chunks. Even if a poor soul does drift to the tunnel floor, the extremely flat design causes a player to simply glide to a walking stop instead of smacking into a pole or pillar. The central soul soil road is optimal for soulspeed travel, and the design includes a rail system placed on the left and right of the soulsoil road for entity transport.

The crowning achievement of this design is the meticulous lighting, designed to be visually pleasing while keeping all light sources far enough back to make melting the central ice road impossible ( tested with randomTickSpeed:5000 and 10 minutes of patience) and if the lower railroad is ever considered unneeded, ugly, etc. the lighting is sufficient to make the solid blocks under the rails unspawnable.

Further screenshots and a video tour of the design are available to anyone interested.
